On Ancestry there is a Cooley family listed showing Joseph Cooley, dying 8 Feb, 1863 with William W. Cooley, son of James Cooley and mother, Dorothy Cooley, daughter of John Cooley(Joseph)..

I feel rather certain that William Fields was a brother in law of William Cooley, son of John Cooley(Joseph). His wife was Elizabeth Fields and she had either an uncle or a brother named William Fields living in Chariton County. Those names are in the auto of Joseph Cooley, son of William Cooley and Elizabeth Fields on internet.

Wasn't there a recent conversation concerning the husband of Dorothy Cooley that died early. Some thought that husband was Cornelius.

I don't know but just putting out this info from Public Trees on Ancestry. Wm Cooley and Elizabeth Fields are my GGG Grandparents so the Field's name is familiar to me but we have never been able to identify Elizabeth's parents as some family history says she came to Mo from Kentucky as an orphan. Joseph Cooley's Field's uncles he mentions in his auto, according to him were not Elizabeth's parents but either her brothers or uncles. Even with those names, none of us have been able to identify her parents.

I think that I asked the question about a family for Joseph Cooley without thinking. I forgot that he was found on the 1860 census living with William Fields as a 24 year old and without a family.

After checking Joseph Cooley's civil war papers on Fold3 I have come to the conclusion that what looks like Wm is just a fancy W. However, he was 27 years old and a farmer -- have we found a family for him?

I'd say it is a W. I'll upload it to the webpage and send the link to
everyone to see what they think.

BTW, you can send attachments with plain text emails to the list,

  Thanks for this!
