Re: Mary Frances Cooley, daughter of Timothy G. Cooley
Yes, it is clear that his name is Ozem. I neglected to say that before Green B.
Lawson and Mary F move to El Dorado Missouri from Adair county that they lived
in Olathe, Kansas where son George H. Lawson was born.
I never have counted the affidavits in support of Mary Frances and how she was
treated by Green -- might get out the pension and do that. The only support
that Green B had was his son George. They both said that while they lived in
Olathe that she went off with a guy (I don't remember his name). It does seem
to me that George would have been too young to know this as some of the
affidavits stated that they knew them for six or eight years in El Dorado. The
affidavits were dated 1901 and George was born in 1881.
What do you have on Rebecca Elizabeth Cooley, the daughter of Tink? I have not
been able to find a marriage record for her to John Shoemaker. I have often
wondered why the children were living with Alexander Wilson on the 1870 census
if John Shoemaker died in an mine explosion in 1872. Yesterday I found the
daughter Frances Elizabeth living in Iowa and I checked the 1925 IA census for
them. Frances said her father was John W Shoemaker and mother Rebecca Wilson.--
too bad the death dates were left blank. This really changes things . I have a
letter ready to be mailed to Macon Historical Society for the file on F
E Shoemaker etal-- maybe this will tell who the parents are and why Alexander
Wilson was the two girls guardian.
I haven't done any research on this daughter knowing that she died young. This
is what Dale Walker send me about Rebecca Elizabeth Cooley in 1982:
Rebecca Elizabeth Cooley born August 4, 1838 in Macon City, Missouri. She
married John Shoemaker, and he was killed in an explosion at Vawter's Mill in
1872. What happened (after John's death) to Rebecca is not known. She disappears
from the records. She may have remarried, etc., but nothing further is known. No
known children.
As you can see this isn't correct. Did a daughter of Tink married a Shoemaker?
Sandy

Mary Lou, I have pretty much the same info as you except for the following
differences:
I have O B Nichols listed as Ozem OR Ozern but it is questionable. Is it clear
in the Pension file? I presume it must be Ozem from your notes. I have his full
name as Ozern/Ozem Blashfield Nichols (from Ancestry Trees). I have his
marriage to Mrs Mary F Lawson in Vernon County, MO and his death as 19 Aug 1910
at Ft Leavenworth, KS. He was buried in Deepwood Cemetery, Nevada, Vernon
County, MO.
A L Turner is Albert L Turner who died 23 Feb 1923 in El Dorado Springs, Cedar,
MO.
Mary Frances Cooley was not easy to follow!! It's wonderful that you have the
pension file for Green Lawson. He sounds like he was not the best husband in the
world but it is hard to read between the lines.
