The Ernest descendant invited me to his Ancestry Tree. He had connected to
a bogus descent from Ensign Benjamin Cooley. We know it's not true because
the DNA doesn't match to the many Benjamin descendants. I wonder at what
point in "boguses out."
Benjamin Cooley (1617-1664) m Sarah Colton
Daniel Cooley (1651-1727) m Elizabeth Wolcott
Simon Cooley (1685-1746) m Elizabeth Gunn
Simon Cooley (1720-1805) m Bethia Ashley
Martin Cooley (1754-1797) m Irena Montague
Rufus Montague Cooley (1784-1873) m1 Betsey m2 Mary Horton
John D Cooley (1829-1887) m Eliza Austin
John W Cooley (1864-) m Margaret E Hanes
Ernest Leroy Cooley (1889-1942) m Goldie Dorothy Wallace
Vernon John Cooley (1914-1983)
Apparently, no proof has been found that that John W Cooley was Ernest's
father. (I've not yet looked at it at all.) John D Cooley was born in
Bradford PA in 1829, which may dovetail with the PA birth of the Jack
county TX James Cooley (c1808), but James is not mentioned among the sons
of Rufus.
Again, this is of interest to us because the tester matches so closely to
the Jack county James, who matches closely to us. It's as though James
might have been a bridge, so to speak, between the two lines.
