There's something very wrong with the traditional genealogy on this
family. I believe I mentioned in the first post on this topic that the
line is said to have been descended from Ensign Benjamin, but the testers
DNA is a closer match to ours than his.

The lineage looks good going back to John W, but there may be another
explanation from that point. There was a another Cooley family in Ogle
county, the patriarch having come from Ireland. He had a son John W
Cooley, although he was considerably older than Ernest's father. There was
also another Cooley family in Bradford county PA, one that appears to have
descended from Daniell Cooley of Maryland, which also does not match ours.

Ernest had several brothers. I think the tester should try to find some
DNA back-up to make sure things are good to that point.

You've done good, Mary. But I think there's a hornet's nest there. Chances
are good that Ernest was related to the James of Jack county, but the
genealogy is going elsewhere--and we already know the genealogy to be bad!
