One more point before going to bed, this in respect to the birth year of
James's son William....

James Cooley Sr's estate records list the following heirs and (male)
children:

--quote--
Demarquis D. Cooley. Isaac N. Cooley, James M. Cooley, Timothy G.
Cooley, John H. Cooley, Cornelius Cooley, Benjamin R. Cooley, Matthias M.
Cooley and William Cooley
--endquote

Children are generally ordered in these documents by age. If I've seen an
exception to that, it's been rare. We know with a large degree of
certainty
that Tink was born in 1810 and Matthias in 1818. We can roughly
extrapolate approximate births from that. That William was born c1819 is
supported by the census records for him. I think we see the same kind of
evidence for Benjamin R's birth year. The traditionally-given birth year
of 1805 for Isaac also easily fits into what we know about him. William
was certainly not born c1804.

With all due respect to Jan, there are a lot of errors. Without
nitpicking, I would suggest that if we were to look at those items that
are contrary to more recently-found evidence, we'd discover that those
dates, etc., lack citations and documentation. We need to go by what we
find in the record, not from undocumented family group sheets.
