Yes, he just didn't know about Tink and Tant. ("Tink and Tant" is
amusing!) But some of it he got from his mother's bible. For a lot of it,
he was clear that he didn't know and was just guessing--his mother's first
husband's first name, for example-- a half dozen names may have been
discussed. But I think most of what we're interested in is verifiable. And
in regards to his mother's maiden name, he describes several relationships
in such a way as to reiterate that she was a Cooley--he names all of his
aunts and uncles, all of whom, I believe he stated, he knew well.
I was reading in one of the letters last night about his adopted son. He
then talked about another son sick with the flu and two daughters that had
become teachers. But it wasn't clear to me whether they were his
biological children. Was anyone able to untangle that or otherwise know
about them?
