Had we determined when William Henry Cooley first arrived in Ohio? If not
by 1810, then we can assume that he is buried somewhere in the 1810
census--and that is assuming that his father's family was enumerated:
http://ancestraldata.com/ahnentafel/256/pennsylvaniacooleys.html
So, let's pretend that he was there and that all Cooleys in PA were
enumerated accurately, and that my transcription is correct. What do we
have?
Fifteen Cooley families. We have genetic profiles for seven of them:
William, Frederick, Jonathan, John A., and Richard of Fayette county;
Francis of Allegheny county; and William Coolley of Luzerne County.
Additionally, we know the genealogy for Isaac Cooley of Lycoming county,
which is believed to have been of the Ensign Benjamin clan. Assuming,
again, that the enumerations are correct, the following families do not
have children close to William Henry Cooley's age and sex: Samuel Cooley
of Fayette county; Charles Cooley of Luzerne county; Michael Cooley of
Northumberland county; and John Cooley of Adams county. That "rules out"
twelve families (only if *all* data is accurate!).
That leaves us with one family of *near* matching enumerations, Amos
Cooley of Lycoming county with two males 0-9, and two families with strong
matches: Jacob Cooley of Luzerne county with three males 0-9 and one male
10-15; and A Cooley of Northumberland county with one male 0-9 and one
male 10-15.
Have I missed anyone?
I need to check my correspondence but I *think* Jacob Cooley either came
from or went to Canada.
Still, it's highly possible that William's family isn't listed. But it
might be worth looking at these last three families. Does anyone know who
"A Cooley" of Northumberland county was? His two sons fit William H and
James (later of TX). He had four daughters as of 1810.
