This is very good. Thanks for letting us read it. Maybe some day the wrong data on the many trees on Ancestry will be corrected after this is seen by them in the future.

I keep finding changes to make but enough is enough for now. I'll return
to the Hamil chapter again later.
This is intended to be the second chapter, so there may be some context
needed. In fact, the previous chapter will state the thesis. The next
chapter, which is partly written, will discuss the DNA. It won't be until
chapter four that I actually get into John Cooley's genealogy. I'll also
devote a chapter to some of the other Hamil Cooley lineages. (I believe
we're now up to six distinct Y-DNA signatures. -- She really did mess it
hugely.)
It's my way to mark words and facts that need worked on with two question
marks. You'll see that in the citations for Hamil's obit--I don't yet have
the full citation.
The section title "The Evidence" is very confusing simply because the
source that I'm trying to straighten out--Hamil's book--is confusing.
Hopefully, once I get to the illustrations created that should help. (Note
also that the page number are per the online manuscript, not the book.) In
the meantime, you might want to refer to

Some of my musings about the nature of genealogy, etc. might be moved
elsewhere--or go. (I'm sure my history profs wouldn't approve of much of
it.)
Hopefully, I'll get some info from UC Santa Barbara about the contents of
Tallant's archive. And maybe I'll find Hamil's grandson and will gain some
additional insight from him.
In short, much of this may change. Please let me know if I've gotten
something wrong. And I find typos every time I look at it. I'm sure that
are more there. I'd appreciate any and all typo alerts.
I'll probably remove this after a couple of weeks because it's not meant
for general circulation:

I'm going to take a breather then again work bits and pieces from one
chapter to the next. My next "finished" chapter may be another short one,
perhaps what we've learned about John's daughters.
