I'm gonna chime in to include some information that I found last week while looking into the folks on Wolf Island. This was one record about William G. Cooley (William Grundy Cooley):

This indenture made and entered into this the 11th day of November 1829 between James Lee of the one part and William T. (G.) Cooley of the other part, both of the County of Stewart and state of Tennessee witnesseth:
That for and in consideration of the sum of One Hundred and Seventy Dollars to me in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. I have this day bargained sold aliened enfeoffed and conveyed and by these presents doth bargain sell alien enfeoff convey unto James Lee of the first part a certain one-seventh part of a tract of land formerly the property of Joel Cooley lying on Dyers Creek north of Cumberland River and butted and bounded as follows to wit:
Beginning at a gum and poplar thence running west 200 poles to a redoak, hickery thence north 400 poles to a stake, thence east 200 poles to a beech in Pratts Hollow, thence 400 poles to the beginning, containing 500 acres.

Now the said William G. Cooley one of the begat heirs of Joel Cooley deceased, for and in consideration of the money aforementioned to me in hand paid as aforesaid, do bind myself my heirs, executors and admrs. and (administrators) assigns to warrant and defend the title to the one seventh of the above tract of land as one of the begat heirs of the said Joel Cooley deceased, to the said James Lee his heirs and assigns forever.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this day and date above mentioned.
