I'd like to find out if they've DNA-tested. Perhaps you can just say that
there's a clue suggesting a possible link between our Cooleys and the
Derbyshire Cowleys and that I'd like to correspond with them about it. YOu
can explain that I'm not an ancestry user and give them my email address.
No need to discuss DNA, which is a very sensitive issue with some people.
