Ugh. Many of our group have been pushed back to M512. Not only that, the
Benjamin Big Y tester is "predicted" to be R-U152 despite the fact that he
is negative for that SNP. Obviously, they don't have this down yet.

Dear Group Administrators,
Â
We owe our community - especially group administrators - Â an apology.
Â
When we released the new Y-DNA Haplotree last spring, we were hopeful that
we would be able to increase our ability to predict haplogroup branches at
a more refined level. In theory, we could draw on the extensive database
of 37-marker testers and deliver a more refined prediction.
Â
However, as we have continued to update the tree, we have learned several
valuable lessons. One of those has been the deeper level predictions do
not carry the reliability we require and that testers deserve. Â What
sounded good in theory is simply not sustainable with the rapid growth of
the Y-Haplotree.
Â
Many of you have contacted us about the inaccuracies in downstream
predictions, and we listened. Management decided that returning to the SNP
Assurance Program level of prediction was the best course of action to
provide the level of accuracy on which we’ve built our database. For
more information on the SNP Assurance Program, click here:

Â
However, that is not why we owe you the apology.
Â
We intended to message this change well before final implementation so you
could be prepared. We also intended to notify customers before the update
was released, but a critical part of our team was excited by the new
process and we unintentionally released the first of the re-predictions
before making the announcement to administrators and then to customers.
Both the R1a and R1b branches of the R-haplotree were finalized today.
Â
We sincerely apologize for the surprise, confusion and frustration this
premature release will surely cause.
Â
We will be re-running predictions for other haplogroups in the next few
weeks as we update branches of the tree.
Â
We’re encouraging customers to work with their project administrators,
especially haplogroup administrators, to determine the best SNPs for them
to order to confirm their branch. Returning to our previous prediction
standard should ease this process for everyone. In addition, over the next
few weeks we will be releasing several of our SNP Packs - the Deep Clade
tests that will in part begin to replace the need for single-SNP testing
since the panels are large, robust, and quite reasonably priced.
Â
We know that the past few months have been frustrating, and we apologize
that something intended to simplify your work was released in a manner
that adds to that frustration. Your hard work and dedication built this
company and we appreciate your efforts more than we can express, so we
will simply say thank you.
