Thanks, Sandy.

Yes, it would have come from Hamil but, in part, a misreading of Hamil,
which is, in any case, *impossible* to read.

I've revised my table, now labeled "The Cooleys, Coolleys, and Coles."
When I first put it together, Bromme Cole--the Cole tester I cited--looked
it over and verified the lineages against Richard H. Benson's, "The Barent
Jacobsen Cool Family" (Boston: Newbury Street Press, 2001), which includes
no Cooleys. Additionally, I've cited sources from records of the Dutch
Reformed Church. The lineages also appear as such on a number of Cool/Cole
websites (none of which include Cooleys). Hamil was not only wrong about
the ancestors of "Willem" Cornelis Cool, wrong about the parentage of her
John Andrew Coolley, but wrong about Leendert: Leendert was Cornelis's
brother, not his son.

So, if Eleanor Rue's 1986 description is accurate, Dale first thought John
was the son of Cornelis and Sarah Westval but changed his mind by 1982.
Hopefully, I can gather enough info to know for sure. I'm especially
interested in his 1979 correspondence with Leslie Buirch, who (apparently)
informed him that James's father was John, not Daniel.

According to most of what I've read online, Leendert Cool moved his family
to New Jersey, where his Johannes was born in 1741. I'm waiting for DNA
test results for a descendant of the John Cooley (1749-1813) of New Jersey
who married Abigail Lippincott. I'd be shocked if it matched the Dutch
Coles. Well, it wouldn't be the first time I'd been surprised. :)
